Citrus College Women's Soccer came up just short on Friday, falling 2-1 at home to San Diego Miramar.

The loss drops the Owls to 1-2 on the season, while the Jets improve to 2-2 overall.

San Diego Miramar struck quickly, scoring in the 3rd minute to take an early 1-0 lead. Citrus responded with pressure from attackers Alexia Leon, Andrea Meza and Bridget Ward, who created chances but couldn't break through in the first half.

The Jets doubled their advantage shortly after halftime with a 49th-minute goal, putting the Owls in a 2-0 hole.

Citrus battled back late, controlling possession and generating multiple opportunities. In the 81st minute, Leon broke through with a brilliant finish — her second goal of the season — after turning past a defender and firing a shot over the Jets goalie to make it 2-1. The Owls pressed hard in the final minutes, firing off five shots in the closing stretch, but couldn't find the equalizer.

The Owls outshot the Jets 17-8 overall but were limited to just one goal. Goalkeeper Liliana Miramontes kept Citrus in the match with five saves on seven shots faced.

Citrus will look to bounce back on the road next Tuesday, September 9, when they take on Norco College at 4 p.m.
