The Citrus College Women's Soccer team kicked off its 2025 season in strong fashion Tuesday night, defeating Victor Valley College 3-1 to secure its first win of the year.
With the victory, the Owls improve to 1-0, while the Rams drop to 0-1-1 after tying Antelope Valley College last Friday, August 22.
Sophomore forward Alexia Leon struck first for Citrus in the 11th minute, blasting an unassisted shot from outside the 18-yard box for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead. The Rams answered quickly, equalizing just two minutes later to make it 1-1.
Citrus regained control in the 26th minute when sophomore midfielder Alyssa Quiroz connected on a header, assisted by Emie Garcia's corner kick to put the Owls back on top, 2-1, heading into halftime.
The Owls extended their advantage midway through the second half as freshman midfielder Aurora Contreras finished a header off a corner kick from fellow freshman Emie Garcia, sealing the 3-1 victory.
In goal, Liliana Miramontes (W, 1-0) kept the Rams' offense at bay, tallying three saves on the night.
Citrus outshot Victor Valley 14-7 and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Owls will look to stay unbeaten when they travel to San Diego Mesa College on Friday, August 29, for their first road contest of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
