Owls Complete Third Straight Sweep, Close Regular Season at 30-10
No. 9 ranked Citrus College Baseball defeated West Los Angeles College 5-2 to earn its third consecutive conference series sweep (3-0) and extend its winning streak to 11 games. The Owls wrap up their 2026 regular season with a 30-10 overall record, their most wins since 2009 (25) and first 30-win season since 2003.
Citrus used a big early swing and strong pitching to secure the 5-2 road victory.
The Owls broke through in the second inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues before Garrett Patterson delivered. With two runners on, Patterson launched a three-run home run to left field, bringing home Julian Hines and Jackson Gray to give Citrus a 3-0 lead.
The Wildcats answered with two runs in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Citrus pitching limited any further damage and kept the Owls in front.
Citrus added to its lead in the sixth inning when Nick Velazquez led off and later came around to score on a Julian Hines RBI groundout, pushing the advantage to 4-2. The Owls manufactured another run in the eighth, as Velazquez again ignited the offense by reaching base before Jackson Gray lined an RBI single through the left side to extend the lead to 5-2.
Velazquez played a key role atop the offense, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Patterson was strong with three hits and three RBIs, including the go-ahead home run in the second—his second of the season—while Gray went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI and Hines added a hit and an RBI. Citrus totaled 10 hits, drew four walks and struck out five times, while also swiping three bases. Dustin Yela reached base twice and added a stolen base.
On the mound, Sean York (W, 2-0) turned in a dominant performance, allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings while striking out a season-high nine and issuing just one walk. York settled in after the fourth inning, retiring hitters efficiently and preventing any late threat. Matthew Martinez followed with two shutout innings out of the bullpen, allowing no hits while walking two and striking out one to close out the victory.
The Owls will await the 2026 3C2A Baseball Regional Playoff seeding to determine their next opponent, returning to the postseason for the first time since 2019.
