Patterson, Owls Close Out Canyons for Three-Game Sweep
No. 22 ranked Citrus College Baseball completed a three-game conference sweep with a 5-1 win over College of the Canyons at home on Saturday, March 28. The Owls improve to 19-9 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
Citrus jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Cam Casado, continuing his strong week, opened the scoring with a two-RBI double down the left field line, bringing home Jordan Daniels and Cole West. Later in the frame, Nick Velazquez added an RBI double to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Owls added to their advantage in the third when Casado delivered again, lining an RBI double down the right field line to score Daniels and make it 4-0.
Daniels capped the scoring for Citrus in the fifth inning, launching his fourth home run of the season to push the lead to 5-0. Canyons broke through with a run in the seventh, but the Owls remained in control to secure the 5-1 victory.
Casado led Citrus offensively, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Velazquez also turned in a multi-hit performance, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. West reached base three times with a hit and two walks, scored a run and stole two bases, highlighting an aggressive Citrus effort that produced six stolen bases.
On the mound, Garrett Patterson (W, 1-1) delivered a strong outing, allowing one run on six hits over seven innings while striking out three and walking one. The two-way catcher/right-hander also contributed at the plate and on the bases, becoming the first Owl since 2019 to record a win as a starting pitcher, a hit and a stolen base in the same game.
Ryan Harrison closed out the game with two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two.
Citrus returns to action Tuesday, March 31, opening a three-game conference series at Los Angeles Mission College. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
