Owls Continue to Build at Oxnard Invitational
Citrus College Cross Country traveled north to Oxnard on Friday, September 5, to compete in the Oxnard Invitational, hosted by Oxnard College. The meet featured some of Southern California's strongest programs, including Antelope Valley, Cerritos, Chaffey, El Camino, Mt. SAC, Norco, and Santa Monica.
In the Women's 5,000 Meter, freshman Berenice Godinez set a new personal best with a time of 36:06.4, placing 42nd overall.
On the Men's side, the Owls showed steady improvement in the 4-Mile race. Sophomores Jonathan Evangelista (23:07.3) and David Evangelista (23:32.8) each ran season bests, finishing 46th and 53rd respectively, with Jonathan averaging a 5:46 mile pace and David close behind at 5:53. Louis Amador also recorded a season best at 24:43.4 (67th overall), cutting nearly three minutes off his time from the Owls' first race in Augusts' Pirate Invitational. Freshman Juan Esteva continued his own progress, crossing at 26:10.5 (6:32 pace), an improvement of nearly four minutes over his debut at Ventura (Pirate Invitational).
The Owls now turn their attention to the Biola Invitational this Friday, September 12, at Ted Craig Regional Park in Fullerton. Racing begins at 8:45 a.m.
