Citrus Sweeps LA Pierce, Falls to Canyons in Conference Opener

Citrus College Volleyball split a pair of road matches last week, sweeping LA Pierce 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-13) on Wednesday, September 24, before falling 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 16-25, 19-25) to College of the Canyons in their Western State Conference South opener on Friday, September 26.

With the results, the Owls move to 8-7 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

In the win over LA Pierce, Sophia Martinez led the way with 12 kills, 11 digs, an ace, and a block assist. Emma Cristales added 11 kills, four digs, and two aces, while Aaliyah Janae Freeman chipped in four kills and two block assists. Setter Lily Whitney distributed a match-high 26 assists to go along with five digs and a kill. Naomi Dominguez contributed with three kills, two solo blocks, two assists, an ace, and a block assist.

Against College of the Canyons, Martinez once again powered the offense with 18 kills, 10 digs, two assists, an ace, and a block assist. Cristales followed with 13 kills, two block assists, an ace, and two assists. Whitney ran the offense with 31 assists while adding nine digs, two aces, a kill, and a block assist. Dominguez tallied five kills, two block assists, a solo block, two digs, and an ace.

The Owls return home on Wednesday, October 1, when they host Antelope Valley in their second conference matchup of the season. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
