Owls Stun No. 6 College of the Canyons with Dominant 3–0 Victory

Citrus College Women's Soccer delivered one of its biggest wins of the season on Friday, October 24, defeating No. 6–ranked College of the Canyons 3–0 at home in a conference rematch. The win avenges the Owls' 2–1 road loss to the Cougars earlier this season on September 30.

With the victory, Citrus improves to 7–5–3 overall and 5–1–3 in conference play, while Canyons drops to 12–2–1 overall and 6–2–1 in conference.

Both teams came out with intensity, trading early scoring chances in the opening minutes. In the 12th minute, freshman forward Mikani Telles shot a rocket from beyond the 18-yard box that soared past the Canyons keeper for her first goal of the season, putting Citrus ahead 1–0. The Owls maintained their momentum throughout the half, outshooting the Cougars 8–5 and taking a one-goal lead into halftime.

Citrus continued to press in the second half, showing no signs of letting up. In the 53rd minute, Bridget Ward delivered a pinpoint pass to Layla Serrato, who slipped the ball past the Canyons keeper to double the Owls' lead. The goal marked Serrato's sixth of the season.

The Owls sealed the upset in the 85th minute with a perfectly executed counterattack. Jasemine Flores won possession along the left sideline and found Serrato streaking forward. Serrato then sent a low cross into the box, where Ward tapped home her fifth goal of the year, extending the lead to 3–0 and putting the game out of reach.

Goalkeeper Liliana Miramontes anchored the Citrus defense with a flawless performance, recording six saves on six shots faced. Alexia Leon was relentless in the midfield, regaining possession repeatedly and nearly adding a fourth goal when her late strike in the 88th minute rattled off the crossbar. Flores and Aubruanna Mejia also stood out defensively, disrupting the Cougars' attack and initiating several key plays that led to scoring opportunities.

Citrus will now hit the road to face Santa Monica College on Tuesday, October 28, in what promises to be another intense conference matchup. The Owls will look to sweep the season series after defeating SMC 2–0 at home on October 2.
