Citrus College Women's Soccer opened Western State Conference South play with a 2-0 victory over LA Valley on Friday, September 26.

With the win, the Owls improve to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Monarchs drop to 5-4 and 0-1 to start conference action.

Citrus controlled the pace in the first half, outshooting LA Valley 6-2, but neither side was able to break through as the match went into halftime scoreless.

The Owls struck early in the second half when Layla Serrato netted her first goal of the season in the 50th minute. The play was set up by Aurora Contreras, who found Bridget Ward for a one-touch through ball that Serrato buried to put Citrus ahead 1-0.

Serrato doubled the lead in the 81st minute, cleaning up a deflected ball in the box for her second goal of the night. The Owls' defense held strong the rest of the way to secure the shutout victory.

Citrus finished with 13 total shots, including seven after halftime. Serrato led the way with four attempts, scoring on two. Alexia Leon recorded three shots, with two on target, while Ward placed one of her two shots on goal. Liliana Miramontes played stellar at goalie, saving both of the Monarch shots that were on goal.

The Owls continue conference play on Tuesday, September 30, when they travel to take on Canyons at 6 p.m.
