No. 18 in the state Citrus College Softball mounted a late push but fell short in a 9-5 loss to Glendale College on Thursday, April 2 in conference play. The loss moves the Owls to 22-11 overall and 5-3 in conference.

The Owls got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first inning. After Glendale scored in the top half, Citrus responded with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Grace Twente came around to score on an error, and Alivia Martinez scored on a wild pitch.

Glendale answered with a five-run fourth inning and added four more in the sixth to build a 9-2 advantage.

Citrus showed fight in the seventh, scoring three runs to cut into the deficit. Jaelynn Eaves drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Mia Godoy added an RBI sacrifice fly, and Anaya Burley followed with an RBI single to make it 9-5.

Martinez led the offensive effort, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, a triple (her sixth of the season), and a stolen base—her 33rd of the year. Twente added a hit, a walk, and two runs scored, while Jocelyn Escobedo collected two hits. Eaves, Godoy, and Burley each drove in a run for the Owls, who finished with 10 hits.

Citrus will have a chance to bounce back quickly as they travel to El Camino College on Friday, April 3 for a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
