Eaves’ 8-RBI Day Powers No. 13 Citrus Past Glendale
No. 13 ranked Citrus College picked up a 16-4 road conference win over Glendale College on Tuesday, March 10, bringing the Owls to 15-7 overall and 2-0 in conference. The Vaqueros move to 14-6 overall and 2-1 in conference.
The Owls got on the board in the opening inning when Jaelynn Eaves launched a three-run home run, scoring Alivia Martinez and Grace Twente to give Citrus an early 3-0 lead. Glendale answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and later tied the game in the third inning to make it 4-4.
Citrus quickly regained control in the fourth. Mia Godoy singled home Eaves before Izzy Poveda added an RBI single. The Owls extended the lead to 8-4 later in the inning when Desteny Garcia drove in two runs, scoring Jocelyn Escobedo and Poveda to give Citrus some breathing room.
From there, Citrus' offense took over.
Eaves delivered again in the fifth inning with her second home run of the game, a two-run blast that pushed the Owls' lead to 10-4.
Citrus broke the game open in the sixth inning, plating six runs. Anaya Burley started the rally with a two-run home run, and Eaves capped her incredible day with a two-run double. Additional runs scored on a passed ball and an error to extend the Owls' lead to 16-4.
Citrus totaled 14 hits in the win. Eaves finished with a remarkable 5-for-5 performance with two home runs (her sixth and seventh of the season), a double, and eight RBIs (career-high), accounting for half of Citrus' runs batted in. Martinez scored three runs and stole four bases, tying her Citrus career high, while Twente also crossed the plate three times. Godoy added two hits and an RBI, Garcia drove in two runs, and Burley's two-run homer highlighted the sixth-inning surge.
The Owls combined timely hitting with aggressive baserunning, swiping six stolen bases as they pulled away late to secure the convincing conference road victory. In the circle, Brissa Ayon (W, 13-4) earned the win for Citrus, pitching a complete six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Citrus will return home on Thursday, March 12, when the Owls host Los Angeles Valley College at 2 p.m.
