Citrus College Men's Water Polo picked up its first three wins of the season over a two-day stretch, competing at the Crafton Hills Mini Tournament on Friday, September 12, before hosting the Citrus College Mini Tournament on Saturday, September 13. The Owls went 3-1 across the two events to improve their record to 3-6 overall.
On Friday, the Owls opened with a tough 17-13 loss to host Crafton Hills. Citrus kept it close through three quarters, but the Roadrunners pulled away late with a 3-1 edge in the fourth. Trace Faskell led the Owls with five goals, while Liam Ross and Morrison Villa each netted four. Ross also dished out four assists, with Benjamin Johnston and Ethan Gregory adding two apiece. In goal, Jason Nonis stopped nine shots.
Citrus rebounded in its second game of the day, powering past Fullerton College 18-13. A seven-goal second period broke the game open. Ross had a dominant outing with 10 goals and three assists, while Faskell added seven goals, five assists, five steals, and a field block. Villa chipped in a goal and five assists, while Nonis made nine saves.
On Saturday, Citrus hosted Chaffey and Fullerton in back-to-back games. In the opener, the Owls battled Chaffey to a 14-14 tie at the end of regulation before pulling out a dramatic 18-17 overtime win. Ethan Gregory scored the game-winner with just 28 seconds left in the second overtime period, assisted by Mario Garcia. Ross once again led the offense with nine goals and five assists, while Faskell scored four goals and added four steals. Villa and Johnston each scored twice, Garcia tallied three assists, and Nonis contributed three assists at goalie.
The Owls carried that momentum into their rematch with Fullerton, earning an 11-9 victory. Villa led the attack with five goals, while Faskell and Ross each scored twice. Gregory handed out three assists, Guzman added two, and Nonis was stellar in goal with 16 saves on 22 shots.
Citrus will now enjoy a two-week break before returning to action in conference play, hosting Ventura College on Wednesday, October 1 at 3 p.m.
