Eight Citrus Football Athletes Earn Opportunities at Four-Year Institutions

After a 6-5 campaign that culminated with a Golden State Bowl appearance, eight members of the Citrus College football team are set to continue their careers at four-year institutions.

Jarrel Comer is headed to Oregon State University, Tyson Toscano will continue at Utah Tech University, Thomas White is bound for Angelo State University, Jadakiss Vaokakala has signed with Sacramento State, Drew Tapley is joining Ferris State University, Steve Carlin is committed to Whittier College, Brian Salazar Jr. will also continue at Sacramento State, and Ismail Ganley is headed to Indiana State University.

Comer, a standout defensive lineman from Eastside High School in Gainesville, Florida, played in all 11 games for the Owls in 2025 and totaled 58 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, six sacks and two blocked kicks. He earned SCFA All-National Division Northern League First Team honors and was named to the 3CFCA All-California First Team.

Toscano, a product of Etiwanda High School, appeared in 10 games for the Owls in 2025, recording 29 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick. The defensive lineman earned SCFA All-National Division Northern League First Team honors and will continue his career at NCAA Division I FCS Utah Tech.

White, a sophomore linebacker from West Covina High School, appeared in 19 games over the 2024 and 2025 seasons. He compiled 83 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble and three pass breakups before earning the opportunity to continue his career at Angelo State University in Texas.

Vaokakala will take his disruptive interior pass-rushing ability to Sacramento State after appearing in 18 games over two seasons with the Owls. The defensive lineman amassed 59 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and one forced fumble during his Citrus career.

Tapley, a product of Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Arizona, will join the back-to-back NCAA Division II National Champion Ferris State University Bulldogs. During his lone season at Citrus in 2025, Tapley showcased his versatility by playing multiple positions, catching four passes for 85 yards and a touchdown at tight end while also seeing time at fullback and on special teams.

Carlin played in 11 games over the 2024 and 2025 seasons, hauling in 10 receptions for 69 yards while also making an impact on special teams with four tackles and one forced fumble. He will continue his career at Whittier College, which is set to reinstate its football program in 2026 following a three-year hiatus.

Salazar Jr., a standout freshman quarterback from Monrovia High School, will reunite with teammate Vaokakala at Sacramento State after a record-setting 2025 season. Salazar established new Citrus single-season records with 237 completions, 3,210 passing yards and 36 touchdown passes.

Ganley, an offensive lineman from Claremont High School, earned SCFA All-National Division Northern League Second Team honors after appearing in six games during the 2025 season. He helped anchor an offense that ranked seventh in the state in passing yards and 22nd in total offense. Ganley will continue his career at NCAA Division I Indiana State University.
