10 Owls Named to All-WSC East Team; Nua is WSC East Player of the Year & All-State

Glendora, CA - After a 2017 season in which the Citrus College Softball team went 24-14 and 13-5 in WSC East play for second place, the Owls had 10 players named to the All-WSC East team. That included sophomore Jade Nua whose outstanding 2017 campaign got her named Co-MVP of the WSC East and an California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association All-State selection.

Nua's 2017 saw her lead the State in batting average (.613), walks (41), on-base percentage (.748), and slugging percentage (1.301). Her batting average mark, and slugging percentage marks are CCCAA single-season records, while her 41 walks are the second most by an individual in State history. Nua also drove in 62 RBIs which was fifth most in the CCCAA this year, and swatted 16 home runs which was third in the State in 2017. Nua is ninth player of the year in program history for the Owls, and 10th All-State selection.

Along with Nua, three other Owls were named All-WSC East 1st team selections. Sophomore Celine Spathias repeated as a 1st teamer, by hitting .380 with six home runs, six doubles, 45 runs scored, and 46 RBIs. Sophomore Karissa Martinez was also a 1st team selection, after earning Honorable Mention honors as a freshman in 2016. Martinez hit .338 with 22 runs and 17 RBIs for Citrus this season. Rounding out the first team selections was freshman Seanna Jimenez who hit .431, a team leading 18 doubles, scored 48 runs, hit for home runs and drove in 39 RBIs.

Earning 2nd team All-WSC East nods were four freshman in the form of Valerie Ortiz, Danielle Dominguez, Molly Montell, and Jacquelyn Preciado. Ortiz batted .387 with 31 RBIs, while Dominguez was 18-6 in the circle with a 3.57 ERA. Montell came on strong down the stretch for Citrus hitting .317 with 28 RBIs, while Preciado was a steady contributor throughout with a .379 average and 24 RBIs.

Rounding out the All-WSC East selections were freshmen Mia Escobar and Jocelyn Alvarado who were both Honorable Mention honorees. Escobar hit .379, scored 37 runs, and stole a team high five bases, while Alvarado was Citrus' starting short stop hitting .349 with 19 RBIs.
